HESSLE ROAD PRAM RACE IS BACK!!

Dear

The historic Hessle Road pram race is set to be revived this year thanks to members of the community of Hessle Road.
By working in partnership with the Community Action Box, Gateway, Hessle Road Network, Community Wardens, Local Business, and other Community Organisations, we are hoping to attract many people to Hessle Road.

The race, which was first run in 1986, saw hundreds of residents and businesses racing prams up and down Hessle Road in the hope of winning prizes. The race was a real community event for all the family.
The Aim of the event in 2009 is- To raise up to £50,000 in sponsorship to create a fund which will benefit groups in the Hessle Road area, that have the following objectives;

  • To provide youth and play training to youths and adults to enable sustainability
  • Offer volunteering opportunities for young people and adults on various projects throughout the area
  • Assist the community through the regeneration ‘change’ process
  • Offer support to local groups to set up activities and access funding
  • Community projects around health, drugs, alcohol, citizenship
  • Work with partner agencies, schools, community and local businesses to identify hotspots of anti social behaviour

A Committee has been formed with representatives from the Voluntary/Community Sector, Local Authority and Local Business to organise the event and manage any funds raised. The Pram Race Committee is currently applying for charitable status. For more details email kimhepple@yahoo.co.uk

The race will be followed by, a carnival on Massey playing fields which will include fairground rides, sports, arts, music, and activities for children and young people, and representatives from local community groups, there will also be an historical display at the Western Library, on the Boulevard.

This is an ideal opportunity to raise awareness for your business and we
would like to see many Hessle Road traders enter or sponsor the race and help us to raise funds for the community.
The race will be a fun, fancy dress event for all the community

There will be a number of categories for people to enter including

  • Factories
  • Pubs and clubs
  • Primary schools
  • Secondary schools
  • Youth groups
  • Community/Resident groups
  • Large shops
  • Small shops

There will also be a prize for the best dressed window

Enclosed is an application form for you and your organisation to complete if you would like to enter or sponsor the race. If you cannot take part then, please sponsor another person/organisation.

DO get involved and help us to make the event a huge success. This is your opportunity to be part of the Hessle Road history
